Moors murderer Ian Brady has been begged to end his 47-year silence and reveal where the body of Keith Bennett is buried in a DVD filmed by the victim's dying mother.

Winnie Johnson, 77, has been diagnosed with cancer after doctors discovered a fist-sized tumour in her womb and fears she only has months to live.

She is about to begin a course of radiotherapy and is desperate to bury her son, who was just 12 years old when he disappeared in June 1964.

Brady and his lover Myra Hindley killed and buried Keith in an unmarked grave on Saddleworth Moor on the border of Yorkshire and Lancashire.

The pair were jailed for life in 1966 after being convicted of the murders of three other children, Edward Evans, Lesley Ann Downey and John Kilbride.
Almost 20 year later, in 1985, Brady confessed to killing Keith and one other victim, 16-year-old Pauline Reade.

But while Brady led police to Pauline's body, he has never revealed where Keith's body is buried, putting Mrs Johnson through almost half a decade of hell.

Now, in a bid to find a shred of humanity in the man who killed her son, Mrs Johnson has filmed a short DVD for Brady, who remains in Merseyside's high-security Ashworth hospital.

In the video she reveals to Brady that she has cancer and appeals directly for him to end her torment.

'I'm doing it in the hope he will respond – that’s if he watches it,' Mrs Johnson, from Longsight, Manchester,  told The People.
'The most important thing is to find Keith before the cancer beats me.
'He knows where Keith is but I think he enjoys having that last bit of power – and if I find Keith he’ll have nothing left.

Mrs Johnson says she has sent hundreds of letter to Brady over the years asking him the same question, and doesn't hold out any realistic hope that he will now talk.

That's why friends of the family are raising funds - via the website www.findingkeith.com - for a fresh search of the moors later this year.
Myra Hindley died in jail, aged 60, in 2002.
